The Oaky River is a river of the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales in Australia. This river rises below Round Mountain and flows approximately 40 kilometres (25 mi) in a mostly south westerly direction to its confluence with the Chandler River. The Ponds Creek is the main tributary of the river. Oaky River passes into the Oaky River Power Station Dam before it drops into the rugged Oaky River Gorge for a total drop in elevation about 885 metres. The Oaky River and its tributaries are trout streams and platypus may be sighted in the waters.[1] [2]

The Oaky River Power Station Dam is approximately 40 km from Armidale. When full the dam covers an area of around 42 hectares and holds 2,780 mega litres of water. Power supplied by the Oaky River Hydro Electric scheme feeds into Country Energy’s network.[3]
